GIANCE to co-host LCA Workshop at Graphene Week 2025 – 24/09/2025

The GIANCE project will take centre stage at Graphene Week 2025 with a dedicated workshop on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), co-organised by Fraunhofer ICT, a core partner of the GIANCE consortium. The workshop will take place on September 24th, from 11:15 to 13:15 in Vicenza, Italy.

Chaired and moderated by Ana Claudia Salles (Fraunhofer ICT), the session will bring together key players from research, industry, and policy to foster a shared vision for sustainable graphene development. The objectives of the workshop include:

• Strengthening the European LCA community for graphene
• Aligning on key environmental assessment needs and challenges
• Defining common methodological standards for data collection, system boundaries, LCIA, and more
• Initiating the creation of an open LCA graphene database to support harmonisation, transparency, and innovation

• A welcome session and presentation of GIANCE’s work to date
• Expert talks from:
  • Johan Ek Weis (SIO Grafen, Chalmers Industriteknik)
  • Matteo Maccanti (GRAPHERGIA, Next Technology Tecnotessile)
  • Susanna Andreasi Bassi (JRC European Platform on LCA – remote participation)
  • Antonio Valente (ecoinvent – LCI database expert)

The event will culminate in an open discussion with the community, focusing on how to move forward in building a robust, EU-aligned framework for LCA in the graphene sector.
