Call for papers: Collection Nature Portfolio. Climate extremes and water-food systems
Global climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, posing significant risks to sustainable development, particularly in agriculture. Due to its reliance on water resources, agriculture is especially vulnerable, with events such as droughts, floods, and heatwaves directly disrupting food systems and water quality. The interconnected nature of food, water, and energy systems further complicates these challenges. Addressing these impacts requires innovative research efforts to better assess the effects of climate extremes and to develop effective mitigation strategies.
In this collection, we highlight articles exploring the interactions between climate extremes and water-food systems, including assessments of impact extent, investigations into underlying mechanisms, and proposals for nature-based or human interventions to address these challenges.
