Call for papers: Challenges in Evaluating Sustainable Food Production and Consumption (Discover Sustainability – Springer)

Food production is identified as one of the key industrial and economic pillars feeding the world but also affecting the environment by planet pollution and resource depletion. However, severeness of the environmental impacts has been subject to various debates questioning the real impacts mainly in terms of climate change. In parallel, food consumption generating large amounts of food waste and food packaging waste is also seen as a great contributor to overall pollution. As a result, various mitigation measures and approaches emerged from the promotion of new food technologies and agricultural practices to the recommendation of new, sustainable diets.

In this Collection, we encourage authors to submit conceptual and empirical contributions as original research manuscripts or reviews related to, but not limited, to the following topics: methods of monitoring, measurement, analysis and evaluation of different food sustainability dimensions, development of food sustainability indicators, sustainability of food value chains, assessment of sustainable food production, sustainability of food consumption, sustainable footprint of food production, sustainable footprint of food consumption.

Keywords: food sustainability; sustainable diets; food overprocessing; food neophobia; new food technologies; advanced agricultural practices, climate mitigation, zero residues concept.

Submission deadline: 28 February 2026
