SETAC Europe 18th Annual Meeting

The SETAC Annual Meeting next year will be held in Warsaw from May 25-29, 2008. The deadline for abstract submission is November 30!

The topic of the meeting is World under stress: scientific and applied issues in environmental toxicology and chemistry.

The programme will be composed of platform and poster presentations in parallel sessions in a range of disciplines.

As usually, both purely scientific and applied problems will be discussed, and particular stress will be put on bringing scientists and practitioners together.

The following main themes will be addressed:

  • Ecotoxicology
  • Environmental chemistry
  • Environmental risk assessment
  • Interactions between natural and anthropogenic stressors
  • Life Cycle Assessment
  • Political and socio-economic aspects of environmental issues
  • Proteomics and genomics
  • Special sessions:
    - Biodiversity
    - Carbon Footprinting
    - Environmental contamination and human health
    - Environmental risk assessment in Central and Eastern Europe
    - Evolutionary processes in contaminated environment
    - Impacts of climate change
    - Nanomaterials

The chair of the LCA session E2 is encouraging experts in this domain to consider submitting an abstract to this session:

E2 - LCA and cost-benefit analysis in technology assessment and policy making
Policy and decision makers involved in the evaluation of technologies are increasingly aware of the environmental implications of their decisions. They look to LCA and Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) as tools to provide a comprehensive overview of the potential environmental and economic implications of their decisions. Can LCA and CBA provide the required precision and differentiate between various policy or technology options? How do we deal with scenario developments for emerging or future technologies which often span several decades? What can we learn from examples in the areas of energy and solid waste? The session should address how LCA and CBA are used today in this area and how they can be used in future.
