PROSUITE Project

Project supported by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme on Environment.

PROSUITE (PROspective SUstaInability assessment of TEchnologies) is a collaborative project of 25 academic, SME and industry partners working together to develop a coherent, scientifically sound methodology for the sustainability assessment of current and future technologies.

The aim of the PROSUITE project is to show how to check and guide the economic, environmental and social performance of technologies with a standardized, comprehensive approach. The project's team is committed to help move towards integrating these three sustainability domains in Europe and abroad. We will provide, at term, an open source Decision Support System allowing SMEs and others to perform sustainability analysis for their own industrial plans and processes.

PROSUITE partners will work with stakeholders - SMEs, large industries, regulators, and analysts – to be sure that the freeware tools rely on shared, agreed and acceptable assumptions. Stakeholders will help, too, to be sure that the tools are easy to apply and respond to real needs.

Along the way, PROSUITE will deliver actual sustainability estimates for 4 technology cases: Biorefineries, Nanotechnology, Multifunctional mobile devices and Carbon storage and sequestration.

The PROSUITE newsletter (see attachment) keeps stakeholders, scientific communities and the interested public up to date with aims and progress of the project.
