Job: LCA Research Fellow

The European Institute for Energy Research EIFER is a non-profit research organisation located in Karlsruhe; it was established by EDF and KIT. We are currently looking for a Research Fellow in the field of Environmental Externality Assessment / Life Cycle Analysis to work in the "Energy-Environment Economics" group.

EIFER aims at developing and improving innovative clean energy technologies as well as tools and approaches for the sustainable development of cities, territories and industries. EIFER also works on environmental economics to assess impacts (e.g. due to climate change) on various activities of the energy sector, to quantify environmental impacts from human activities (such as power generation) and to work on methods for monetary valuation of these impacts. As this field of
research is constantly growing, we are looking for a highly motivated
new colleague.

The assigned tasks involve:

  • Involvement in the different activities in the field of life cycle analysis and impact assessment mainly concerning energy conversion techniques,
  • Preparation of research proposals and elaboration of work plans,
  • Communication of scientific findings to our project partners.

Required qualifications are:

  • University degree in a field related to the environment (including environmental economics) with a special interest in energy issues or engineering with a strong interest in environmental issues related to energy,
  • Experience in Life Cycle Analysis is advantageous,
  • Interdisciplinary thinking and ability to transfer methodology,
  • Good knowledge of the energy sector,
  • Interest in technical matters,
  • Good presentation and communication skills,
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly,
  • Language skills (see below).

The applicants should enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary team. Excellent knowledge of English (oral and written) is mandatory, German and French advantageous.

The duration of the position is initially one year with the option of extension, starting as soon as possible. The salary is based on qualification and experience according to TV-L (100 %).
