Senior scientist position LCA - agriculture and foods

AgResearch in New Zealand is looking for a Senior scientist in life cycle assessment of agriculture and food products.

Senior scientist, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of agriculture and food products

Providing scientific leadership to the agricultural industry to help promote and achieve an innovative, sustainable and prosperous farming sector in NZ.

AgResearch is a global leader in developing integrated and novel solutions that address the needs of agriculture and the environment. The New Zealand economy relies heavily on the export of food products to distant markets such as the UK or the USA where there is strong sensitivity to the impact of agriculture on the environment. This has been highlighted recently by the issue of “food-miles” which, if not addressed in a rigorous manner, can lead to misleading conclusions around the impact of New Zealand agricutural products on greenhouse gas emissions. In response to a growing demand from industry and government stakeholders, a new research area has been developed over the last 6 or 7 years within the AgResearch Climate, Land and Environment section which concentrates on resource accounting, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and carbon footprinting. A growing demand has created a vacancy within this team for a senior scientist to accelerate the progress made and reinforce the expertise of AgResearch in this area.

To be the successful scientist in this role you will possess the following:

  • PhD in Environmental or Agricultural Science
  • Proven ability to undertake and report on scientific research (essential).
  • A proven track record in the development and application of LCA, in an agricultural context.
  • Experience in the development and/or application of LCA in pastoral systems (preferred).

The Ruakura AgResearch campus offers social and sporting facilities, crèche facilities and free parking in pleasant rural surroundings.  AgResearch has a commitment to staff training and continued professional development.
