Call for papers for the SETAC North America meeting

Deadline 4th June

Call for papers on "Managing and reducing uncertainties in environmental assessments" for the SETAC North America meeting in Tampa, FL, November 2008, deadline 4th June

At the upcoming 29th SETAC North America Annual Meeting in Tampa, FL,  November 16-20, 2008, there will be a session entitled "Managing and reducing uncertainties in environmental assessments". The scope of this session is to provide a platform of exchange and learning from experiences regarding uncertainty management in different disciplines such as regulatory or comparative risk assessment, LCA and others.

We cordially invite you to participate actively in the discussion by submitting your proposals for platform presentations and/or posters to this session.

We would like to have a session that covers all different aspects of uncertainty management in any field represented by SETAC. Envisioning the integration of uncertainty management into daily practice, this session provides an integrative exchange platform between the different fields of environmental assessment. It explores approaches to estimate, communicate, visualise and interpret any kind of uncertainty information in environmental studies and its inclusion in decision-making.
Identification and quantification of main sources of uncertainty is a special point of interest; all with the ultimate goal of minimising resources needed to perform uncertainty analysis. Not the least, strategies for uncertainty reduction are certainly of interest in this context. This session explicitly invites all stakeholders from methodological developers to assessors/practitioners and decision-makers to present and discuss their views, experiences and ideas related to practical uncertainty management in their particular field of environmental assessment. Analogies from all kinds of related scientific and decision support areas are welcome to see how various domains deal with this kind of questions and what other communities might be able to learn from that.
Please see the session proposal below for further details.

For some procedural details, please see practicalities, our contact information, and the approved session proposal, below.

We are looking forward to an inspiring and fruitful session, meant as a step towards integrating uncertainty management into daily practice of environmental assessments, and would be happy hearing from you and receiving your abstract (via SETAC) for a presentation and/or posters.
