14th LCA Case Studies Symposium - SETAC

The SETAC Europe 14th LCA Case Studies Symposium will focus on energy.

Energy is presently very much in focus in the environmental debate, due to the dual pressures of urgent needs to mitigate climate change and to reduce the dependency on diminishing fossil fuel resources. These pressures bear through also to LCA, where increased attention is given to energy issues. Energy issues have, in addition, always been central to LCA, both since energy is part of any LCA study and since different ways to model energy systems in LCA have spurred the debate on LCA methodology. The meeting will address the subject of LCA and energy from two directions:
•  LCA of energy: LCA studies focussed on energy technology, such as technology for extraction, conversion and distribution of energy, energy systems, and studies of new, emerging energy technologies.
•  Energy in LCA: discussing the experience from modelling production and use of energy in LCA of products of any type. Example of issues of interest are energy efficiency of products, databases and management of energy data for LCA, and how methodology issues have been resolved in case studies, e.g. modelling of electricity production as marginal or average mixes and geographical boundaries for electricity production mixes.
